What is
LEADER+
LEADER+ is an acronym for the French title "Liaison Entre
Actions pour le Developpement de L'Economie Rurale" (links between actions for
the development of the rural economy). It plays an important part in the EU's
efforts to improve economic and social cohesion across Europe.
The
LEADER+ initiative is widely recognised as being at the cutting edge of local
rural development by providing and opportunity for local people to develop
plans for their community and turn their project ideas into reality. It is a
programme that aims to encourage innovative, novel approaches by providing a
funding source for "bottom up rural development.
- LEADER+ is a 6 year European Community Initiative
until 2008, (final project approval date is 31st December 2006)
- It is a rural centred programme
- Small coherent rural areas
- Population criteria: Max 100,000 and no more than
120 per sq. km
Funding is from the European Agricultural Guidance and
Guarantee Fund (EAGGF)Objective:
- To build capacity in local rural communities to
encourage them to think about the longer term potential of their areas and to
work together to address, in sustainable ways, the needs and issues
identified
- To support local rural communities in developing
and implementing integrated, high quality, innovative strategies for
sustainable development.
